Electronics and Communication Engineering Department of VPMMECW works strongly to emphasis the fundamentals of the Electronics & Communication Engineering, so that the students are introduced to complex subject in an interesting and easy manner.

The curriculum provides a strong foundation in all areas of Electronics & Communication Engineering.

The Department provides the advanced courses in Communication Engineering, Microwave & Antenna Engineering, VLSI Design, Digital/Analog Integrated Circuit etc.

Technical trips to several Industries, Industrial training and expert talks on the emerging technologies are organized to make the students aware about the latest advancement in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering.

The department always encourages the students to be an entrepreneur. In this regard the department organizes several Entrepreneurship awareness program.

It has several laboratories to give hands on exposure to the young undergraduate engineers. The department also has library with a collection of referenced technical books.

The mission of the Department is to impart high quality technical education and carry out leading-edge professional in the discipline of Electronics & Communication Engineering.

The Department provides state of the art computing facilities to the students. It also promotes active industry-institute collaboration by identifying areas of interest.

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering has well equipped laboratories to meet the curriculum requirements as well as to gain additional knowledge in the latest technology.

Circuits Laboratory

The Circuits Laboratory is dedicated for circuit related courses on Electronics Engineering Practice, Circuits and Devices Lab, Analog and Digital Circuits Lab and Linear Integrated Circuit Lab. Students are trained to apply their theoretical circuit design knowledge into practical circuit construction and testing.

Communication Systems Laboratory

The Communication Systems Laboratory is equipped to understand the principles of analog and digital communication. Experiments related to Analog and Digital Communication links including Amplitude Modulation, Frequency Modulation, Pulse Code Modulation, Amplitude Shift Keying, Frequency Shift Keying, Phase Shift Keying, Multiplexing techniques and simulation of communication links and error control coding schemes are performed in the lab.

Optical and Microwave Laboratory

The laboratory is equipped with microwave test benches and optical trainer kits. Students are trained in experiments on Microwave Engineering including characteristics of reflex klystron and gunn diode, attenuation and power measurement and radiation pattern of horn antenna. Experiments based on Optical Fiber Communication Links are also carried out in the lab. Advanced RF equipments and Software Defined Radio Kit are available in the lab and the students are imparted skills to analyze their conceptual knowledge in RF domain.

Microprocessor, Microcontroller and Embedded Laboratory

This laboratory is equipped with advanced microprocessor and microcontroller trainer kits including 8051 and ARM trainer kits to train the students on Microprocessor, Microcontroller and Embedded platforms. Advanced processors with Integrated Development Environment are available to train the students on industry standard processors.

VLSI Laboratory

VLSI laboratory is equipped with state of the art facilities to provide hands on training in the VLSI domain for both UG and PG students. The laboratory is networked and has provision for Electronic Design Automation (EDA), chip design and testing. FPGA development kits with Integrated Development Environment and interfaces are available. Simulation software packages including Multisim, LTSpice, etc., are also available. Students carry out and test their project works in various domains and they are also motivated to participate in innovative project contests. The students are also permitted to do mini projects in various subjects and the significant works are awarded with prizes.

Signal Processing Laboratory

The lab is provided with high end computer systems with networking to carry out signal processing and image processing experiments. Software including MALTAB and Scilab with necessary tool boxes is installed. Facility is provided to carry out significant research work in the area of signal and image processing. The laboratory is equipped with various DSP processors like TMS 320C5X for real time implementation of DSP algorithms.

It is considerably different from other divisions by its own significant distinctiveness especially it is a technical skill dependent learning methodology. Welcome,the Post Graduate Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering at V.P.Muthaiah Pillai Meenakshi Ammal Engineering College for Women. Our department has two post graduate programmed(Master of Engineering in ECE and VLSI) with an annual intake of 24 students in each branch. The department comprises of well equipped laboratories in related fields.

The department organizes Guest Lectures, Faculty Development Programmes, workshops and Seminars in various specialized fields. The industrial visits help them to relate whatever they learn in the class to the real life scenario. Most of the alumni of the college are currently working in reputed national and international organizations and institutions.

During every semester, the calendar of events is prepared, which implicitly incorporates all the curricular and extra-curricular activities of the department and is followed meticulously without any deviation. Importance is given to quality teaching and learning process through faculty development programs for teachers and soft skill programmes for students. The objective of Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is to promote a sense of partnership between parents and teachers. The Parent Teacher Association encourages the parent involvement in the development activities of the institution.

The PTA meetings are conducted periodically to evaluate the effectiveness of the academic activities of the students. The Parent Teacher Association helps to promote good relationship among the faculty members and the parents and in maintaining good discipline of high academic standards among the students. It also benefits the welfare of the students, teachers and the progress of the institution. The students coming from socially and economically backward group are identified and they are financially supported with the help of Management.

The Electronics and Communication Engineering Students Association (ECSA) was formed in the year 2002. It organizes many activities such as symposia, conferences, guest lectures, industrial visits and other co-curricular and extracurricular activities throughout the year.

The annual magazine and department newsletter are published periodically. ECSA also maintains students’ library in our department which consists of a collection of text books, reference books, proceedings of national and international conferences. The association activities also include organizing guest lectures and workshops in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering, conducting Quiz Competitions, technical seminars and mini project contests, participation and publication in international conferences etc.,

Better interaction between Institutions and Industry is the need of an hour. With the advent of globalization and opening up of Indian economy to outside world, industries need well-trained workforce. Hence there is an urgent need to prepare engineering students for jobs in multinational companies, by exposing them to newer technologies and engineering methodologies.

The III Cell was established in our institution and carry out the following activities.

• Adequate technological facilities are created to meet growth and developmental needs of the industry.
• Visits are arranged for both faculty/students to various industries.
• Internship and In-plant training for students are arranged in reputed industries.
• Workshops, seminars, and lectures by Industry Experts are frequently organized for both staff and students.
• Projects/dissertation work of the students is carried out in industries under joint guidance of the faculty and experts from industry.
